The story

Jake was someone’s son, friend, and brother. Then he stepped out of his truck, heard a ringing in his head, and everything went black.

A thing made of shadow and too many voices offers him a choice: be reborn with everything he never had, and forget who he was. Or keep his memories, and be promised a hard life.

In Thren, magic runs on the voices of the dead, the Church burns anyone who sings the wrong hymn, and children are sold to the mines. Jake has a mind full of science nobody here has heard of, and a window only he can see.
